Two Williamsport Bureau of Police officers have filed a lawsuit, alleging discrimination, after being passed over for promotion within the department, dating back to 2017. Officers Steven Helm and Fred Miller, filed the claims in state court, even though they are awaiting the outcome of another case in federal court. According to Northcentral PA dot com, the pair were overlooked due to their activity as union officials, that also includes their involvement in a separation civil suit against the city for anti-union activity.
Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, which encompasses Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and Mansfield; have signed a transfer agreement with Northern Pennsylvania Regional College in Warren, that will allow students to transfer credits from NPRC to one of the Commonwealth University campuses. Northern Regional has 25 classroom sites in nine counties, and offers workforce development opportunities and associate’s degrees. Additionally, CU will award four tiers of transfer scholarships to NPRC graduates.
A man with four active cases involving drugs, was able to resolve three of those cases by accepting a plea deal. 42 year old Lionel Harris was released after each case, due to a medical condition. Harris was also ordered to stay out of Lycoming County. Sentencing for Harris is scheduled for Aug. 11. The District Attorney’s Office recommended four to 11 years incarceration in a state penitentiary. All other charges in the three cases were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology has sold two properties that they owned to Lycoming County, this week. The deal was approved by the college’s Board of Directors this week. The first is located at 1359 West Third St., adjacent to the county’s transfer station, and the second parcel is located at Fritz Station Road in Brady Township. The property on West Third Street comprises 8.94 acres, that is West of the college and is not contiguous with the main portion of campus. A large flat portion of the property was developed as a parking lot. The second parcel of 64 acres, is located in the largely unused woodland just south of the 110 acres owned by the college for their heavy equipment training site, which the college will retain.
A Snyder County Prison inmate has been charged for allegedly making a false claim that a staff member there sexually assaulted her. Ashlee White, 36, of Kulpmont claimed on July 24 that a staff member at the prison had sexually assaulted her. State Police in Selinsgrove investigated the claim and found that no assault had occurred. White was charged with making false reports to law enforcement through the office of Selinsgrove District Judge John H. Reed.
A 39 year old Troy man was taken into custody recently, after allegedly taking a paddle boat, and travelling a short distance down the Susquehanna River. After being confronted by the owner of the paddle boat, Damian Colegrove, refused to leave and was taken into custody by State Police. Colegrove refused to speak with troopers and requested to speak with an attorney. This came about after authorities discovered a backpack with Colegrove’s ID and a baggie of Methamphetamine was found on the inside of the backpack. Colegrove was charged with multiple misdemeanors that included trespassing, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, intentional possession of a controlled substance, and use or possession of drug paraphernalia. Colegrove’s bail was set at $20,000 monetary during a preliminary hearing with Judge William Solomon.
Williamsport Bureau of Police, along with the U.S. Marshal Service, and members of the Philadelphia Police Department, took a man wanted for homicide into custody Thursday in Lycoming County. Marcus Anthony Bell was extradited back to Philadelphia shortly after being apprehended by the authorities. The 37-year-old was wanted for a homicide that occurred in Philadelphia.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology and the Laurel Health System are partnering together to further develop staffing in dental hygiene and LPN nursing, for its campuses that serve Tioga, Bradford and Potter counties in the Northern Tier. The programs offer small class sizes, access to state-of-the-art equipment, and innovative programming that primes students for success as well as a guaranteed two-year job placement at a Laurel Health location to further their work experience and skillset. Grant funding for this sponsorship was supported by the Laurel Health Foundation.

The Keystone Junior Little League team is looking to make their way to bigger things in playoff action. Right now, they are in the Eastern Regional playoffs and taking on a perennial favorite in Freehold, New Jersey. Friday night’s game was extremely lengthy, due to rain and lightning; but, after the delay, Keystone came away with a 7 to 3 win, and has advance to Sunday’s winners bracket game against Berlin, Maryland; Sunday at 1pm.
Lock Haven University Assistant Wrestling Coach Nate Carr Jr. announced on Friday night, that he will be leaving the program to become the Head Wrestling Coach at NCAA Division 1 program, Davidson. Carr Jr. has been an assistant at LHU for the past six years.
