TWO INJURED IN ROUTE 220 ACCIDENT SUNDAY
There was a two vehicle accident along Route 220 in Woodward township that hospitalized two people Sunday morning around 9:30am. According to the Sun Gazette, State police responded to a crash allegedly caused by the unnamed driver of a Ford F-150, who while traveling south attempted an illegal turn onto 220 North. The driver of a Ford Explorer was forced to swerve to miss the truck but crashed into its front end – strewing debris across the roadway. The driver of the F-150 was hospitalized with moderate injuries and the passenger of the Explorer was treated for minor injuries. The roadway was clear before 11am
POLICE SEEKING PATRON WHO THREW ORDER AT DUNKIN WORKER
State police at Montoursville are searching for a suspect who became unruly inside the Dunkin in Loyalsock Township January 8th at about 8:30am. According to North Central PA dot com, police say the unidentified person was dissatisfied with their order that they received at the drive thru window and came inside the lobby to throw it at an employee. Witnesses say the person also open bags of coffee and threw the contents on the store’s floor. They left the premises and drove a black SUV west on East 3rd Street. ROADS OPEN, PENNDOT URGING CAUTION IN COLD WEATHER
Following the weekend’s snow and now with cold temperatures expected this week, PennDOT is advising drivers to maintain caution on the roadways since salt is mostly ineffective at 15 degrees or lower. Speed limits were brought back to normal on I-80 and I-180 this morning and truck advisories on Route 44 in Washington and Limestone Townships in Lycoming County and Route 54 in Ralpho and Mount Carmel Townships in Northumberland County have been lifted. MAN ARRESTRED AFTER HIGH-SPEED CHASE
Shamokin Police successfully used stop sticks to take a man from Mount Carmel in to custody who had fled police after a traffic stop December 27th. According to State police at Stonington, 40 year old Kendall Leroy Griffith was stopped by authorities in Zerbe Township, who noticed had had a brake light out. After the trooper approached Griffith’s vehicle and noticed the odor of marijuana and allegedly saw a knife in the man’s car, and asked him to step out of the car, Griffith accelerated and took off, leading a high speed chase for over 8 miles. The man also tried to elude police by turning off his headlights during the chase. He was charged with felony fleeing and criminal mischief, misdemeanor of false identification to law enforcement, and related traffic summaries. He has a preliminary hearing on January 21st.
KULPMONT MAN FOUND NOT GUILTY OF ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE
A 27 year old man from Kulpmont was in court yesterday and was found not guilty by a jury Thursday of attempted homicide for his role in a shooting in August of 2022 at the 900 block of Scott Street. According to the Daily Item, court records say Brendin Gregory Pancher was found guilty of a felony charge of risking a catastrophe and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief. State police said they were called to the location for shots fired after Pancher allegedly got into a fight at a local bar. Troopers say neighboring home surveillance footage captured the incident involving Pancher and victims Astrid Lutz and Nestor Fabricio Flores. They were not injured in the shooting.
WARMING CENTERS IN THE AREA OPEN
Many area non-profits are preparing for the coldest temperatures of the year and working to help those who find themselves dealing with homelessness. According to executives from Central Susquehanna Opportunities, warming centers such as Code Blue programs are available in Bloomsburg from Agape in Columbia County – call 211 for assistance. In Williamsport, First Church provides shelter overnight at 604 Market Street from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. for those who have no place to go in the cold, including those experiencing homelessness or those without heat where they live.
