FELONY CHARGES FOR MONTOURSVILLE COUPLE
A man and woman from Montoursville are facing felony and misdemeanor inappropriate contact with a minor charges against a 14 year old female at a home in Upper Fairfield Township last November. According to the Sun Gazette, 30 year old Kayla Q. Sniezek and 48 year old Justin Michael Kennedy exposed themselves to the girl, sent inappropriate photos and asked the girl to do the same. Both have been charged with felony unlawful contact with a minor, endangerment and more. Sniezek is jailed in lieu of 50 thousand dollars bail and Kennedy was released on 25 thousand doillars bail. All charges were held for court after their preliminary hearing.
SUSPECTS ARRESTED OVER BURGLARY IN JERSEY SHORE
Two suspects were taken into custody Sunday after an investigation of a burglary at the Nittany Minit Mart in Jersey Shore. According to Lycoming Regional Police they were called to the store at the 800 block of Allegheny Street just before 6am after an employee came to work and discovered that a brick had been thrown through the front door. Police report that the suspects stole items from a display case including Delta 8 Products and after talking with the employee, determined who the suspects were and made the arrest. The two were interviewed by police who said they admitted their role in the theft. Charges are pending.
ENERGY CHOICE BILL REINTRODUCED BY SENATOR YAW
A bill has been reintroduced in the Pennsylvania legislature that would limit banning certain types of fuels and allow PA residents to maintain energy choices. According to State Senator Gene Yaw who is the chairman of the Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee said the fuel neutral bill is about consumer choice and keeping energy costs low. At this time, 26 states have enacted energy choice legislation after a city in California banned natural gas hookups in 2019 in an effort to reduce the use of fossil fuels. The measure passed in the Senate with bipartisan support last session but was never brought up to be voted on in the House.
LYCO DEPUTY SHERIFF SEEKING NOMINATION FOR SHERIFF
With a primary election in Lycoming County coming up May 20th, Lycoming County Chief Deputy Sheriff Eric Spiegel said he’s preparing to seek the nomination to be our next County Sheriff. According to the Sun Gazette, Spiegel has 22 years of experience in law enforcement and was a Williamsport HS and Mansfield University graduate. He was appointed by Sheriff Charlie Brewer as Deputy in the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office in 2009 where he has been supervisor for 13 years. The last day to register to vote in Lycoming County is May 5th . The last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot is May 13th.
COGAN STATION MAN ASSAULT NEIGHBOR, POLICE, WITNESS
A Cogan Station man is in custody after he assaulted an elderly neighbor, police who came to do a welfare check and a witness to the incident on March 21st. According to North Central PA dot com, a Lycoming Regional Police officer arrived at a home along Chesapeake Lane in Lycoming Township and witnessed Aversa actively striking the victim and intervened. Aversa then attacked the officer and a passerby who had stopped to offer help. Police say they discovered that a neighbor had allegedly been previously attacked and knocked unconscious by Aversa before he stole the victim’s purse, phone and cigarettes. He was charged with several counts of aggravated assault, simple assault, robbery and theft and is in Lycoming County Prison in lieu of 250 thousand dollars bail.
SUNBURY MAN ARRESTED FOR DAMAGE TO MAILBOX AND YARDS
A 28 year old man from Sunbury is now facing charges after he allegedly hit a mailbox and damaged two yards with his pickup truck about 2:30am February 16th. According to North Central PA dot com, the owners at one of the properties along Hallowing Run Road affected by the damage called police to report the incident. State Police at Stonington say Clint Jon Riehl in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado, drove over trees, doing damage to the yards in Lower Augusta Township and did not stop to notify the homeowners or call authorities. He was charged with criminal mischief and flight to avoid apprehension.
NO AMBULANCE TRANSPORT SERVICE IN HEPBURN TOWNSHIP SOON
Three years after Hepburn Township joined with Lycoming, Lewis, McIntyre and Cogan House townships to cover emergencies within the same paid system, they have announced that they will discontinue basic life-saving (BLS) and ambulance service after a recent review revealed one of the townships did not want to continue the coverage arrangement. According to the Sun Gazette, officials say only the ambulance service will end from Hepburn – in 90 days – but there still is quick response service – just no transport. Old Lycoming Township will handle EMS transports for Hepburn and Lycoming townships, and the other half of Hepburn Township will be covered by Loyalsock Township.
BLOOMSBURG HS BAND CHOSEN FOR PEARL HARBOR MEMORIAL EVENT
A North Central PA High School is seeking financial support after their band was chosen to represent Pennsylvania at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii to commemorate the 84th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. According to WNEP, an anonymous local veteran nominated the Bloomsburg High School band, who is hoping now to raise the 200 thousand dollars needed to be able to go. They are planning a number of fundraisers for the year as they approach the event this coming December 7th. Mail-in donations cash or checks can be sent to BAHS Band Boosters, 1200 Railroad Street, in Bloomsburg, PA 17815 noting the funds are for “Pearl Harbor Sponsor”.
