A 29 year old Williamsport man has been charged with numerous child sex charges, after allegedly having inappropriate contact with a 5 year old female. Dalton Schlee faces first and second degree indecent assault, first degree unlawful contact with a minor, aggravated indecent assault without consent, aggravated indecent assault – less than 13 years old, and aggravated indecent assault of a child. No bail or court date has been set as of yet in the case.
A former Kohl’s Department Store employee has been charged with theft by unlawful taking, amongst other charges after allegedly taking cash from a cash register over numerous times during a seven day period. Morgan McDermott began the thefts on June 13th and continued three more times, until June 20th. McDermott admitted to the store’s Loss Prevention team of the thefts. McDermott awaits a preliminary hearing in district court.
The financial picture of the City of Williamsport, is in the words of one councilmember in “triage” mode. Financial irregularities have been discovered by an outside consulting firm hired to help the city get it’s finances back in order. This comes after seventeen year Director of Finance, Joe Pawlak, had retired in June. Incomplete IRS reporting, and other issues that date back as far as 2017. The city’s finances are under state investigation by the Attorney General’s office, in regard to River Valley Transit’s misappropriation of funds. All of the claims occurred during former Mayor Gabriel Campana’s term as the city’s leader.
The City of Williamsport will coordinate with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on an evaluation of the levee system, that will cost a shared $962, 000. The evaluation will take approximately 12 to 18 months, and will be done concurrently with repairs needed. The city’s share of the costs, $481,000, can come from one of two sources, either from the Williamsport / Lycoming Chamber of Commerce, who has $500,000 set aside for the levee or from the American Rescue Plan Act funds.
A $1 million dollar grant to assist numerous water systems in Lycoming County, was awarded by the state recently, with the help of State Senator Gene Yaw. $375,000 of the funds will go to pay for improvements in burying an exposed water line, that if burst, would hinder water service to 6600 residents and businesses in the area. That project is currently underway in Jersey Shore. Other funds are being used to assist the Montgomery Water Authority, for a backup generator that will be integral for future development in the area.
The Little League World Series gets underway next week in South Williamsport; but, the event will get kicked off on Monday, with the Grand Slam Parade, that will feature former Major Leaguer Mariano Rivera, as its Grand Marshal. The event is organized by the Lycoming County Visitors Bureau and will recognize the 20 teams from around the world. Activities for the parade will start at 4pm and the parade marches off at 5:30pm. The parade will also be televised on WYOU TV, as well.
A former Muncy man was arraigned on 75 additional charges of child sexual abuse, after being picked up in Coatesville, by the U.S. Marshal’s Service. 36 year old Marcus McDaniel, was earlier in jail earlier, but was released in April after posting $150,000 bail. McDaniel and 33 year old Michelle Strayer, of Muncy, were arrested in the alleged abuse that began in February 2021, in April. District Judge William Solomon rejected bail for McDaniel, who is facing 56 new felonies, including 15 counts each of rape of a child, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with minor and three counts of criminal solicitation. McDaniel also has been charged with 19 misdemeanors, including 15 counts of indecent exposure. Strayer has waived her preliminary hearing and is awaiting trial, on the earlier charges.
The Muncy Public Library will be holding a re-Grand Opening event on Saturday, August 27th that will showcase its improvements that were completed recently. The library was able to secure Community Development Block Grant funds to make improvements for its ADA compliance, an elevator, and handicap accessible parking space and restroom, within the library at 108 South Main Street in the borough. The celebration will get underway at 1pm, that day.

The West End Babe Ruth All Stars, dropped their opening round contest at the Babe Ruth World Series in Glen Allen, Virginia on Friday afternoon, to Pittsfield, Massachussetts, losing 6 to 5. West End, the Mid-Atlantic region champion will now face the Virginia state champion, this afternoon at 4pm.
The Williamsport Crosscutters were shut out for only the second time this season, losing to the regional nemesis, the State College Spikes, 11 to nothing. The series continues tonight with a 6:35pm first pitch. It marks the second shutout loss at home for the Cutters and also the second straight loss for the team, after amassing a five game winning streak previously.
